"A body of men holding themselves accountable to nobody ought not to be trusted by anybody."

– Thomas Paine

New York is ground zero for political corruption - with countless state lawmakers sentenced, convicted, indicted or being investigated for public corruption. Back in the good ol' days, there were a cadre of investigative reporters who dug deep and followed every move made by our lawmakers. But today investigative reporting is in crisis. Most media companies can't afford or have no interest in funding this valuable form of journalism.

There's a correlation between free press and corruption. The less reporting done on local politics, the fewer investigative reporters working, the more corruption exists in politics.
